Invasive Species — European Green Crab (Carcinus maenas)
Green Crab Monitoring by Alaskan Citizen Scientists
Alaskans from Ketchikan to Dutch Harbor engage in community-based early detection monitoring for invasive species as citizen scientists. If you have an interest in the marine environment you can too! Monitoring for European green crab is relatively easy, and anyone can do it. With gear provided by ADF&G, members of the public who have access to shoreline habitat suitable for green crab and an interest in learning, can join the marine invasive species citizen monitoring network. Contact ADF&G’s Invasive Species Program coordinator by calling the Invasive Species Hotline: 1-877-INVASIV.
