ABOUT THE PRINT: Adam Grimm of Elyria, Ohio, at age 21 is the youngest person to ever win the Federal Duck Stamp competition. His winning entry of mottled ducks will appear on the Millennium Federal Duck Stamp. Adam always has been very focused in his goal of becoming a wildlife artist. At the age of 13, he was selling nearly everything he had for sale at shows, and he could identify all of the birds in the United States. Adam developed his keen sense of birds from outings with his grandfather and hunting with his father. Because of his demonstrated skills and enthusiasm, Adam was commissioned to paint the Alaska stamp design. Common eiders breed in Alaska from Kodiak Island to the North Slope. These large sea ducks nest in colonies on tundra wetlands and coastal islands. Except for the short nesting season, eiders spend most of their lives at sea. Common eiders winter in Alaska waters from the southern Bering Sea to Southeast Alaska.
